Jeff Bowie, Gavin Hierseman Named to 2020 All-State Football Teams

This week the Iowa Sports Print Writers Association announced their All-State football selections for the 2020 season.

The ISPWA, with assistance from the Iowa Football Coaches Association, announced their class-by-class selections on Tuesday and two West Branch Bears have made All-State teams.

Jeff Bowie, a senior defensive end for the Bears, has been named to the Class 1A First Team as a defensive lineman. In the 2020 campaign, Bowie totaled 20.5 tackles and amassed four sacks and 11 tackles for loss. This is Bowie's second All-State selection as he also made first team last season. The senior will be joining the the University of Iowa to play football next year.

Gavin Hierseman, the Bears' quarterback, has been named to the Class 1A Third Team as a quarterback. This season the senior threw for 1,422 yards and completed 124/200 passes (62%). In addition, Hierseman threw 11 touchdowns and just four interceptions. On the ground, the senior added 181 yards and five touchdowns.
