Welcome to the first article in Captain's Corner, an editorial series writtten by the captains of the West Branch Football team.

Hello West Branch Bears Football fans, my name is Brandon Rummelhart and I am one of the five captains for this year's team. I am assigned with the task of recapping the first week of football and giving a little glimpse into what West Branch Football is all about.

We had a four days of practice this week and four days of really hard work by all of the players. We have a motto as a team which is that everyday that we have practice we must improve by at least 1%, and if we do that we will be a pretty good team.

Our team this year has a good mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen. This year's team is one of the biggest that West Branch has had with the freshman class having over 20 players. We bring back some experience too with three all-state players in Luke Lenoch, Jacob Barnhart and Colton Dietz, plus some great leaders in Cooper Kabela and Cale Donovan.

This offseason has helped us transition well into the first week of practice. Our lineman had workouts almost every Sunday and the backs and recivers participating in 7 on 7 football leagues at Coe and Cornell Colleges. The offseason is a very crucial time for us because we can use that time to learn the our offense and defense so when the season comes around we already have a head start.

Our team also has a great strength coach in Phil Johnson. He works with the athletes all year long and when summer comes around the intensity level is bumped up a notch. To cap the end of the summer workouts we have ‪gladiator‬ camp, which is a two day camp where all of the football players come together and compete in different strength and speed events.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article and we hope to see your support throughout the year!

Go Bears,
Brandon Rummelhart
