Vote: Beau Cornwell is nominated for KCRG's Athlete of the Week

KCRG TV 9 out of Cedar Rapids this week has nominated West Branch quarterback Beau Cornwell for their Athlete of the Week award. VOTE HERE.

Cornwell finished the regular season as one of the top passers in Class 1A. The junior racked up 1,970 yards passing with a 65.4% completion rate, good for second and first (over 100 attempts) in Class 1A respectively. Cornwell also threw for 20 touchdowns and just five interceptions while also rushing for 232 yards and seven touchdowns. Cornwell's play helped lead the Bears to a 9-0 regular season and a District 3 championship. The Bears will play host to the Pleasantville Trojans this Friday in the first round of the playoffs.

Also nominated are two other quarterbacks: Cade Daugherty from Bellevue and Nick Casey from West Delaware.

Through the regular season, Daugherty lead Class 1A in passing yards with 2,039 on just 117 completions and 182 attempts, good for a 64.3% completion rate and 17.4 yards per completion. The Bellevue quarterback also threw for 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. Daugherty accounted for an additional 238 rushing yards throughtout the season, helping his team finish the regular season at 8-1, runner-ups in District 3. The Comets will take on Wilton this Friday in the first round of the playoffs.

Casey is also one of the top quarterbacks in his class, Class 3A. The quarterback finished the regular season fourth in yardage at 1,639 on 109 completions and 199 attempts, while also throwing 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The West Delaware Hawks finished their season at 7-2 and will take on Waverly-Shell Rock this Friday in the first round of the playoffs.
