Prior to the 2017 season kicking off on August 25th against West Liberty, the Bears are prepping the Little Rose Bowl in West Branch with two key annual events: A scrimmage and Meet the Teams Night.

Scrimmage

West Branch and Mount Vernon High Schools have announced details for this year's edition of the annual preseason scrimmage between the Bears and Mustangs.

The scrimmage, now in its third year, will take place on Friday, August 18th at the Little Rose Bowl in West Branch. This is a change from the previous two years where it was held at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. The JV teams will take the field at 6:30pm with the Varsity teams following at around 7:30pm. Both teams will be allowed a number of offensive and defensive series to serve as a final tune-up before heading into the first game week of the new season.

Mount Vernon is led by Lance Pedersen, son of West Branch head coach Butch Pedersen. In 2016, the Mustangs finished the regular season with a 7-2 record, heading into the Class 2A playoffs with a District 5 championship and a seven game winning streak. The team continued that streak through the first and quarterfinal rounds before falling to Union, LaPorte City in the semifinals, finishing the season at 9-3.

Meet the Teams Night

The same evening, August 18th, West Branch High School and the community will gather at the Little Rose Bowl once again for the long standing tradition of Meet the Teams Night. The annual event is held to introduce the West Branch community to the Cheerleading, Cross Country, Football, Marching Band, Soccer, Swimming, and Volleyball squads. The night's festivities will begin at 5:15pm.

We look forward to seeing everyone at each of these events!
