Throwback Game returning this season against West Liberty

Despite the tradition of walking down Oliphant Street to AC/DC's classic "Back in Black," last season saw the Bears play their first home game of the year wearing purple jerseys rather than the traditional home black. Throwback Game Night was the occassion.

Before the Bears began sporting red and black, they were the Polar Bears and took the field with a purple and white color scheme. However, due to war time efforts in the early '40s, West Branch Schools were no longer able to obtain purple-colored uniforms. Thus, the red and black Bears were born.

Back for the 2015 season is the Throwback Game Night and the Bears will put on the purple jerseys once again as they face off against West Liberty, an appropritate foe for this night.

We're going to have it every year as long as I'm the coach here and I hope they continue it when I'm gone. It was great to see the baseball team have a throwback game this summer. It's a great tradition and it's something we need to continue to do. Too many times we forget the people that used to be here and this is a big thank you back to those wonderful people.

The Thowback Game will be at 7:00pm on Friday, September 4th - the Bears' second game of the season. We are looking forward to seeing everyone in the crowd wearing as much purple as possible.

Last season, the Bears beat West Burlington/Notre Dame 45-0 on Throwback Game Night. Check out the purple jerseys and highlights of the game below.
