West Branch to host Dike-New Hartford in second round of playoffs

After a 49-22 victory over Sigourney-Keota Wednesday night in West Branch, the Bears are moving on to the second round of the 2014 Iowa High School Athletic Association State Playoffs. The IHSAA announced late Wednesday night the second round playoff pairings. West Branch will take on the Dike-New Hartford Wolverines at the Little Rose Bowl this coming Monday night at 7:00pm. Dike-New Hartford is a #2 seed from District 4 and finished the regular season 7-2 overall, 5-1 in district play. Wednesday night, the Wolverines beat District 5 #3 seed Bellevue Comets 42-7 after trailing 7-0 early in the game. The Bears and the Wolverines last faced each other in the semi-finals of the 2010 playoffs where West Branch lost 21-14. West Branch's District 5 foe North Cedar is also moving on to the second round and will take on District 4 #1 seed and consensus #3 team in the state South Winneshiek. Other District 5 qualifiers Alburnett (#4) and Bellevue (#3) lost Wednesday night. The full list of the second round playoff pairings can be viewed here.
