Was the starting quarterback and a team captain for the 1989 state championship team in West Branch.

Helped lead West Branch to two American Legion baseball state championships as a youth.

Graduated from the University of Iowa.

Married to Julie, and the couple have five children: Jaden, Gavin, Allie, Abbie, and Anna.
